About us
Women have always been oppressed in society and in many countries they still are. Many studies have found that when the women in a society are protected and educated, they whole society benefits in multiple different ways. Better economies, healthier citizens and less violence.
So, helping female entrepreneurs to grow their own business will help move society in that direction.
The women we help through Kiva are women in poverty that would never otherwise have been able to get a loan to grow her small business except from a loan shark. And that would NOT help her in any way except to enslave her.
So, we hope you will join us in our fight to bring hope to the world by helping poor female entrepreneurs to help themselves.
If you join us you will help us to become the fastest-growing, most well organized team in Kiva history! We have a BIG mission – we want to grow to one million members and $100 million in loans by 2025.
We’re also looking for volunteers for our various TEAM CAPTAIN positions. Click the button below to see what positions we have available so you can help change the world.
Team captainsThe Bring Hope to the World story stretches back a number of years…. view the chart below for the key points of the history so far.
Mohammed Yunus lends $27 of his own money to 42 women in a small village in Bangladesh. He made a profit of $0.02 on each loan. In December of this year, Mohammed, with the help of his government, founds Grameen Bank to make small loans to poor entrepreneurs.
Kiva is a micro-lending platform that crowdsources funding from ordinary people with individual loans granted from only $25.
Mohammed Yunus receives Nobel Peace prize for founding the Grameen Bank and pioneering the concepts of microcredit and microfinance.
Lance Langenhoven, owner of The Commercial Professionals (a commercial real estate brokerage in The Woodlands, TX) joins Kiva & puts in a few hundred dollars.
Woodsedge Church’s vision is re-designed to be “Love Jesus, Journey Together, Bring Hope to the World”. Lance likes the 3rd vision point so much he purchases the domain & trademarks it.
John Mackay (Whole Foods Market Founder) and Raj Sisodia write Conscious Capitalism and Lance decides to finally use the www.BringHopetotheWorld.com domain as the social responsibility arm of The Commercial Professionals. At last he found a way to bring together all the components that he had come across since 2008. It only took six years to get to this point!
Lance creates Bring Hope to the World as a 501 (c) 3 non-profit to make it easier to make grants to deserving charities outside the USA. Previously they had an account with Bank of America Charitable which is a donor-advised fund or DAF but they wouldn’t grant funds to charities outside the USA and the process of making a grant was just way too time-consuming & frustrating to have to deal with.
Lance decides to start putting 50% of the donations that The Commercial Professionals gives each year to Bring Hope to the World into a Kiva account. The loans are aligned with the Kiva Christians group.
We decided to create our own team on Kiva on June, 5th 2019 and we set ourselves a BIG target: #1MillionMembers #100MUSD #BY2025
Kiva is an international nonprofit, founded in 2005 in San Francisco, with a mission to expand financial access to help underserved communities thrive. They do this by crowdfunding loans and unlocking capital for the underserved and underbanked, improving the quality and cost of financial services and addressing the underlying barriers to financial access around the world. Through Kiva’s work, students can pay for tuition, women can start businesses, farmers are able to invest in equipment and families can afford needed emergency care.
Don’t sit on the sidelines. Get in the game! Join our team TODAY and start making a difference in the world. Be the change you want to see. Okay… that’s maybe one too many clichés!!! But, you get the message. It’s just $25 to make your first loan and it gets paid back! So, where’s the risk?!
